PROFESSOR GHULAM RASOOL SOOMRO

Professor Gulam Rasool Akram Soomro born on first February 1939 in village Jhangan Bozdar near Mirpur Mathelo and his father’s name Jamal ul Din and “Akram” is pen name. his family shifted from village to city Mirpur Mathelo in 1952. He started his academic career as Urdu Teacher in 1961 and then was selected as Lecturer in Sindhi in 1973. He has worked as Lecture in Sindhi subject in Government Premier College, Karachi, Government Degree College, Thatta, Government Degree College, Sukkur, Assistant Professor in Government Degree College, Ghotki, and retired as Principal Government Girls Degree College, Deharki, District Ghotki in 1999.

ABOUT PROFESSOR GHULAM RASOOL SOOMRO

Education

He received primary education from his Grandfather Mr. Allahdad in Village and secondary education from Government High School Mir pur Mathelo. Thereafter, he completed his Higher Secondary education from Hyderabad Board and Graduation and Postgraduation from Sindh University, Jamshoro in 1970. He learnt lessons of poetry from the Ustad Elahi Bux “Sher” and Uncle Molvi Muhammad Alam “Akhtar” and Molana Abdul Raham “Ziyai”. Mr. Akram got admission in M.Phill Shah Abdul Latif University Khair Pur Mir’s in 1994. His M. Phill, theseis was converted into research paper for PhD thesis on “Biography of Qazi Qazan and his poetry”. He completed his two seminars for Ph.D, however, due to sudden departure of his guides, Dr. Memon Abdul Majeed and and Dr. Tanveer Abbasi, could not finalize it. However, the research work titled has been completed.

Family

Mr. Akram’s family connected with education. His grandfather Haji Khawand Bux was head master in Muslim School Pir Bux Khan Gabool. His grandfather was teacher of Persian and Arabic and he also expert in reading and teaching of manuscript.

Mr. Akram’s mother was well known in Quran and religious teachings. She read Noor Nama, Shah Jo Risalo, (Compiled by Haji Muhammad Samoon) Tanbeh al Jahaleen, Tashbeh al Gafleen, Shah Kareem’s risalo Bayan ul Arfeen (which written in old Sindhi script) read in today’s Sindhi script.

Mr. Akram’s elder brothers was well known Primary School Teachers. He learned old Sindhi script from mother and uncle Muhammad Bux Soomro, his uncle Saadi was assistant to teacher in Maktab of Molvi Bhao ul din village in 1944 and second uncle Molvi Mehmood Soomro was renowned scholar of his age.

Mr. Akram is only Professor, who has written books on different subjects, i.e., Urdu, Sindhi, Pakistan Studies, Social Studies, Islamic Studies, Muslim History.
